Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the most common questions asked about Tuina massage therapy by my clients.
If you have a question that is not listed here, please feel free to contact me anytime at

Why have a TuiNa Massage?

As well as helping muscles to relax and become more supple, TuiNa massage can help to increase the flow of blood and other nutrients to and from effected muscles, it can also assist the body with breaking down scar tissue and help the body to heal and repair itself more quickly.

What should I expect during my first appointment?

During your first treatment I will take a brief medical history and have a short consultation with you about why you have come to see me. I will then begin your treatment, focusing particularly on areas of the body that have been highlighted by the medical questionnaire and initial consultation. During this session I may ask questions whilst giving you your treatment. This is to help me create a tailored made treatment to suit your particular needs. Before the end of the session I will speak with you about how I can support you with the issue or problem you have come to see me about. I will also tell you about the short and long term benefits you should expect from having TuiNa massage treatments.

What should I wear?

TuiNa is a fully clothed treatment. You should wear loose fitting, comfortable clothes.

Do I have to be completely undressed?

TuiNa is a fully clothed treatment that can be carried out on a massage bed, on the floor or seated on a chair. There is no need to remove any clothing. None at all. I sometimes may work directly with the skin. However, this is done without having to get undressed.

What massage oils or products do you use?

I use a particular heat based product and or a moisturiser when working directly with the skin. If you have a particular massage oil or product you would like me to use, please inform me prior to me starting your treatment.

How long will the treatment last?

I have 3 different lengths of treatment. 30 minutes, 60 minutes or 90 minutes.

How will I feel after the treatment?

Different people feel differently after a treatment. Some people feel energised and raring to go while others can feel tired. I encourage people to take care of themselves and not over push themselves. My clients often talk about feeling cold after a treatment due to the body being more relaxed. It is always a good idea to have a warm jumper or jacket to put on after a treatment.

How often should I receive a TuiNa massage?

This is dependent upon the individual. I advise clients who see me for a particular injury or complaint to have a series of treatments as a way of helping the client to correct imbalance they currently are experiencing. Some clients choose to have a TuiNa massage treatment at regular intervals as a way of helping them maintain their well-being and reduce the possibility of developing imbalances within the body.

Is it ok to go to sleep during a treatment?

Yes, it is okay to go to sleep during a treatment. Sometimes this exactly what the body needs to do. You are welcome to talk to me as little or as much as you would like during your treatment. This is your time and I want you to gain as much as you can from it.

Does TuiNa Massage hurt?

Sometimes you might experience areas of uncomfortably as you are being massaged and after the treatment. I will work with you to minimise this. My main aim during a treatment is to help your body let go of tension, relax and promote its natural healing processes.

Can I bring someone with me when I am having a treatment?

Yes, you can bring someone with you when you are having a treatment. Sometimes having a friend present can help someone to relax that little bit more.

Can children have a TuiNa massage?

Yes, children can have a TuiNa massage. I will treat young people from the ages of 14 to 18. This is with parental consent. Young people under the age of 17 must be accompanied by an adult when they have a treatment.

Does my treatment need to be carried out in silence for it to be effective?

No. You are welcome to listen to music I have or you can bring your own music on a device that has Bluetooth technology.

What is your cancellation policy?

I operate a 24hr or more notice cancellation policy. Any appointment cancelled within 24hrs of scheduled appointment will incur a £10 cancellation fee.

I'm not in Cnetral London, can I still get an appointment?

Yes, you can still get a treatment if you are not in Central London. I have a clinic at RSPB Rainham Marshes that is held on the 2nd Sunday of every month. I also do home treatments. Please get in touch to schedule an appointment.
